SoCal Annual Conference Guidelines

The Twelve Traditions of Co-Dependents Anonymous are the guidelines for conducting Annual Southern California Regional Conferences. Following are specific applications of the Traditions that were approved for our Conferences by group conscience of the Southern California Regional Committee (SoCal CoDA) on October 4, 1997.

  1. Only CoDA National Conference Approved Literature will be available at Regional Conferences. (Traditions 1,4,5,6,8and10).
  2. There will be no offering or display on site of business cards, flyers, books, papers or other professional materials by or regarding speakers, workshop leaders or any persons or programs. (Traditions 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11 & 12).
  3. Any materials offered at the Conferences, including workshop handouts, must be submitted to and endorsed by the Conference Committee.
    (Traditions 1, 6, 8, 10, 11, and 12).
  4. All speakers, workshop leaders, etc. will be active CoDA members and will appear as such and only as such. Speaking, sharing and leading will be done only in relation to the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of CoDA following the framework of Experience, Strength and Hope. (Traditions 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11 and 12).
  5. Only first names (and first initials of last names if necessary) will be mentioned or listed, both within Conferences and in any information distributed regarding Conferences. (Traditions 6, 8, 10, 11, and 12).
  6. There will be no information offered regarding the background, professional experience, or other qualifications of speakers, workshop leaders or anyone else at Conference. (Traditions 6, 8, 10, 11 and 12).
  7. Therapy will not be conducted in any meetings, workshops, events, places, etc. at Conferences. No batakas or hitting of pillows, no guided screaming, etc. No advice given by or to anyone, except to suggest the recovery offered by the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, or to refer to CoDA National Conference Approved literature. (Traditions 1, 5 and 8).
  8. Materials distributed within and outside of the CoDA community to attract attendance at Conferences will not promote them. There won’t be any promises or suggestions of recovery or enjoyment, simply a factual description of the Conference program and schedule, allowing everyone to make their own decisions. (Traditions 8 and 11).
  9. There will be no financial sponsorship from outside the program; no mention of any outside enterprises, except when necessary for communication (name of the hotel, parking or transportation service, etc.). We will pay our own way (both in the months of development and during Conferences) for meeting rooms, refreshments, equipment, etc. (Traditions 6 and 7).
